Midnight Echo Issue 4 - coming June

Scott Tyson

I thought I would write a little about myself.

I grew up in a regional area of New South Wales, Australia, a few hours drive from Sydney. The bulk of my past is something I can't seem to remember. Sure, there are tid-bits here and there, but for the most part it's nothing but a blank void.

I left school early to pursue a career in electronics; that and the fact that I couldn't wait to get the hell away from the place. I stayed in the same job for twenty one years, after that I couldn't deal with it anymore. The industry is moving in ways that just don't seem to accommodate technicians any more.

I have wanted to write for longer than I can recall, I just haven't had the confidence or the inspiration. Recent events, and indeed with an equal helping of fate, have led me to begin what I believe is my destiny. Never in my life have I been at one with myself as I am now.

I write five days a week and leave the weekends for time with my family.

After completing Turn Back! I gave myself a week off and began 'The Breed' (aprox. 110 thousand words so far and shaping up to be something unbelievable). There are so many ideas floating around in this head of mine I have no idea how I will find the time to put them onto paper, but I have no doubt that I will find a way.

Currently I have help from several people in editing Turn Back! I believe it's not far away from being as good as it can be. Genuinely exciting times.

Anyway, whenever I have something to add, and a free minute or two, I'll try and keep this space up to date.

Cheers,

ST.

Just a quick update.

Turn Back was edited several times by myself and a few others, but at this point I believe it may have been a learning device more than anything else. Who knows, it may become more in the future, but for the time being it will remain on the shelf.

The exciting news is that the first book I have submitted has just been accepted for publication, due for print in July/Aug 2010. I was blown away, to say the least. Five days later I'm still in total shock.

My third novel is currently with editors/pre-readers and I hope to receive some feedback in the coming weeks.

Currently I'm 20K deep into my fourth, and it's shaping up nicely.

Hopefully I'll be back here soon to fill in the blanks with a further update from my publisher.

Cheers, and all the best.

 The latest update: Depressing News.

I have just been informed by my publisher that he has sold the company, and that all accepted manuscripts are now null and void. Everyone must re-submit to the new owner.

To say that I am pissed-off is the understatement of the year.

Merry Christmas, Scott.

Luckily I love writing. I can see why many become disheartened.

90 more days to wait. Not the end of the world, for sure, but quite disappointing seeing I had a print date. Now no date at all.

I will continue to plug along, writing as best I can, hoping for the best.

Cheer up, Scott, things will pick up soon.

Mournfully yours,

Scott Tyson.

Geez, what was with that last update? Talk about depressing!

The Breed is still doing the rounds. Currently it's in the hands of another publisher. Feedback so far is positive, but I guess time will tell.

My subsequent novel Bad Blood came back from my editor. His thoughts mixed with very promising comments from my pre-readers suggest this is my best work. I'm excited as hell with this one, and as soon as my current work in progress is completed I'll be giving it a thorough edit.

On a more current note, my short story Dear Santa has been selected to feature in Tasmaniac Publications' Festive Fear anthology, to be released towards the end of the year. Regular members of the AHWA won't need the information, but here's the link: http://www.tasmaniacpublications.com/Annual.htm

I couldn't be more excited, both to feature in the publication, but to be listed amongst authors I both read and admire.

Anyway, I will update any important news as it comes my way.

Cheers, and thanks for reading.
