What Do You Get?

  1. Membership! First of all, you actually get to declaim loudly and most proudly that you are an official member of the AHWA. We’ll even send you a neat little membership card!


  2. Website Access. Some content and forums on the AHWA website are password protected and only accessible by members of the AHWA. This includes the Market Hive (our extensive list of horror markets), the Business of Writing, information on the best ways to get published, and much more. This also includes all archived material.


  3. Midnight Echo, the official magazine of the AHWA for free! Midnight Echo will be published twice a year and all AHWA Members receive a free PDF of each issue. Members also receive a discount on the price of a print copy. 

  4. AHWA Competition Entry. Paid up members of the AHWA will be able to enter the annual AHWA Flash & Short Story competition free of charge. This competition will still be open to non-members but they will need to pay the full entry fee. We will also be running other smaller, fun competitions with special give-aways from time to time (ie, movie passes, books, dvds), which will be exclusive to AHWA members.  

  5. Special Events. AHWA members will be exclusively invited to participate in specially organised events.


  6. Discounts & Special Offers. These will change over time, but right now, joining the AHWA will make you eligible for the following:

     - 15% subscription discount for Aurealis

  8. Promotional Opportunities. Members of the AHWA can promote their work on Sinister Reads for free.

Who Can Join?

The Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) is a non-profit organisation that formed as a way of providing a unified voice and a sense of community for Australian (and NZ) writers of horror/dark fiction, while furthering the development and evolution of this genre within Australia. AHWA aims to become the focal point and first point of reference for Australian writers and fans of the dark side of literature, and to improve the acceptance and understanding of what horror is to a wider audience.

So if this sounds like something you want to be involved with, then membership is for you! You don't need to live in Australia (or NZ) to apply, but you do need to be an Australian (or NZ) citizen or permanent resident.


How Do You Apply?

Membership applications can be made by either downloading the Application Form, filling it in and then posting it to us at:

What Does It Cost?

Application Fee: AU$15.00
Annual Membership Fee: AU$20.00

Alternatively, you can post a cheque or money order to the postal address above. Make the cheque out to Australian Horror Writers Association.  Unfortunately, we are unable to accept credit card payments at this stage.
